Being a dentist is a coveted gig around the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report, which ranked it the No. 1 job of 2015. Dentist jumped up two spots from 2014, when U.S. News ranked it the third best job in the nation. And for the second year in a row, dentist ranked No. 1 overall on the “Best Health Care Jobs” list. New radiation machine fees, forms required
As 2015 begins, there are new fees and forms dentists should be aware of regarding the use of radiation machines. Annual radiation machine registration fees went up from $79 to $93 as of Jan. 1. In addition, new forms are available from the California Department of Public Health to report the discontinuance of use and when a dentist is no longer in possession of any functional radiation machine. Dental students important to CDA Cares' success
Dental students who volunteer at CDA Cares events work in central supply, sterilization and chairside and help operate the computers in the X-ray area, escort patients and serve as general volunteers. Nearly 800 dental students have volunteered at CDA Cares. Since 2012, CDA Cares clinics have provided $9.2 million in oral health care services to 11,901 patients. Read more >>


Handling emergency Schedule II prescriptions
Following the October 2014 reclassification under federal law of hydrocodone combination products (HCPs) such as Vicodin and Norco from federal Schedule III to federal Schedule II, some dentists report pharmacies refusing to fill emergency prescriptions telephoned in for HCPs, under circumstances in which they may traditionally have been accepted. This article is intended to clarify the state of the law with regard to such HCPs and help dentists understand the requirements and limitations on oral prescriptions for a Schedule II drug. Governor's budget proposal ignores Denti-Cal
CDA is disappointed that the 2015-16 state budget proposal released by Gov. Jerry Brown Friday does not address the statewide crisis in access to dental care. The budget proposal does not address any of the critical issues highlighted by a recent state audit of the Denti-Cal program, which found that the Denti-Cal program is failing to provide adequate access to timely care for millions of low-income children.
