CDA Cares San Diego provides care to 2,203 patients

During the two-day event, dentists and dental professionals provided more than 12,518 dental procedures, including cleanings, fillings, extractions and oral health education. The Dental Board of California recently began a large-scale enforcement effort against the unlicensed practice of dentistry in Southern California. The Southern California Unlicensed Dentistry (SCUD) Task Force was established by the Dental Board's enforcement unit and has been  investigating numerous reports of unlicensed dentistry being offered in a wide variety of settings. CDA’s grassroots program helps members advocate for profession

To help members have an impact in their local communities and statewide, CDA has launched a revamped grassroots advocacy program. Under the program, CDA organizes “Advocacy Days” designed specifically for individual components. Groups of approximately five dentists are selected from a component to either come to Sacramento or to take part in a regional advocacy day and meet with legislators in their home districts. CDA leader running for ADA president

Carol Summerhays, DDS, a general dentist with a San Diego private practice, has formally announced her candidacy for the office of ADA president-elect 2014 at the ADA House of Delegates in New Orleans. In addition to her role as the ADA Thirteenth District trustee, Summerhays has held numerous ADA leadership positions and has served on various committees, including strategic planning, compensation, governance, government affairs and new dentist. CDA Cares San Diego provides $1.6 million in care

Over the two-day event, 2,203 patients received $1.62 million in care at CDA Cares San Diego on Dec. 7-8. More than 1,700 volunteers, including more than 900 dental professionals, provided 12,518 total procedures at no charge to patients who experience barriers to care. Read more >>

CDA Foundation helps new dentist serve community in need

With a personal objective to provide quality dental service and education to the underserved, Stephanie Calvillo, DDS, was recently awarded the CDA Foundation’s 2013 Student Loan Repayment Grant. The grant provides up to $105,000 over three years toward repayment of student loans in exchange for a commitment to care for underserved individuals. Read more >>
