Disability Insurance Awareness Month was named by the LIFE Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping consumers make smart insurance decisions to safeguard their families’ financial futures.

All TDIC Insurance Solutions plans, including Anthem, Kaiser and others, will be impacted by the Affordable Care Act at levels that are yet to be determined. As we move into 2014, plans continue to cite ongoing increases in the cost of providing health care as reasons for recent actions to raise premiums – even before full implementation of ACA. Because of this, TDIC Insurance Solutions is diligently working with experts in the industry to both determine the possible effects and explore alternatives for its health care policyholders.

In the wake of an adverse court ruling last fall, CDA and other stakeholders are pursuing legal and legislative avenues to prevent implementation of a 10 percent reduction in Medi-Cal fee-for-service reimbursement rates, a reduction which if fully implemented would be retroactive to June 2011. The fee reduction was part of a larger state budget deficit reduction agreement, and affected nearly all Medi-Cal providers.

CDA continues to advocate on behalf of its’ members concerning Delta Dental’s intention to cut Premier Plan provider reimbursement rates an expected average of 8 to 12 percent later this year. The following letter from CDA President Lindsey Robinson, DDS, explains to members that Delta has a responsibility and an obligation to communicate with its providers when inquiries are made, not limited to the legally required 45-day contract policy notice period, and failure to do so can result in providers filing complaints. The letter is as follows:
Kaiser Permanente has donated $10,000 toward next month's CDA Cares San Jose dental clinic. Kaiser officials said one of the main reasons the donation to the May 18-19 clinic at the San Jose Convention Center was made is because the state’s cuts to Denti-Cal have had a ripple effect.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the agency that enforces HIPAA, has clarified that unencrypted emails may be sent to patients who have been advised of risks and have consented to receive unencrypted emails. CDA will mail updated employment poster sets to local dental societies for distribution to members this month. Several state and federal agencies require employment posters to be conspicuously displayed at dental offices. Stay up to date with CDA’s set.
