Practices must display two new posters

Dentists need to be aware that there are two new posters that must be printed and posted in their dental offices. The orange and gray set of required posters, which are printed by CDA and provided by local component dental societies, was published and distributed to members in May 2015. However, for 2016, there have been updates that need to be incorporated into the existing poster sets until new poster sets are available in the spring of 2017.

The Department of Industrial Relations requires employers to post information advising employees of workers' compensation benefits in a conspicuous location frequented by employees where it can be easily read during the workday. In addition to minor verbiage changes, the California Division of Workers' Compensation made substantial changes to the notice, including to the areas of:

  • Medical care
  • Permanent disability benefits
  • Supplemental job displacement benefit
  • Naming your own physician
  • Reporting injury
  • See your primary treating physician

This updated poster, Notice to Employees — Injuries Caused By Work, can be downloaded at www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/NoticePoster.pdf. If dentists have Spanish-speaking employees, the poster should be displayed in both English and Spanish.

In addition, employers are required under the whistleblower laws to prominently display a list of employees' rights, including the telephone number of a whistleblower hotline maintained by the office of the attorney general. Changes include expansion to protect an employee who complains internally to a person with authority over the employee or another employee who has the authority to investigate, discover or correct the violation. This is a mandatory change that requires lettering to be larger than font size 14 point type.

California's Whistleblower Protection poster is available to download and print at www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/WhistleblowersNotice.pdf.
