The Practice Advisor (PA) serves as a consultant to CDA members in the areas of dental office practice management.  The PA will review practice data and work with the client to evaluate practice systems and devise a customized comprehensive plan. The PA will provide training to the dentist and staff through in-office meetings, regular phone calls, and group workshops.

Responsibilities and Key Objectives

  • Review, analyze, and develop recommendations based on practice assessment questionnaire.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled in-office evaluation with clients throughout their agreement period and provide recommendations as well as monitor progress based on client goals and vision.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled telephone meetings with clients to assess progress and provide input and recommendations.
  • Document all contact with clients through CDA’s contact tracking system (Aptify software). Provide details related to recommendations, questions, progress, and future meetings.
  • Review, analyze, and provide feedback and recommendations to clients based on monthly data/ Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) provided by the client.
  • Evaluate clients’ marketing plans and provide recommendations and strategies.
  • Provide presentations during group training meetings. Topics include: Leadership, Patient Communication, Case Acceptance, Hygiene Program and Employment Practices.
  • Work with Client Coordinator to schedule and travel to client offices as well as group trainings.
  • Attend monthly team meetings to discuss client status and potential clients, as well as weekly department meetings to discuss department goals.
  • Determine client’s program status and make recommendations related to active status versus maintenance.
  • Prepare and discuss recommendations related to terminating client program agreement with the consulting team.
  • Initiate the development of and ongoing maintenance for practice related resources, including but not limited to articles, checklists, manuals, website resources, and educational programming.
  • Review the Practice Support website for accuracy, including resources, webinars, ask-an-expert, blogs, etc.  Provide content offerings and updates.
  • Identify, research, and analyze emerging trends of calls and contacts to facilitate CDA organizational responsiveness to new issues and/or members’ concerns.
  • Identify, research, and analyze emerging trends for development of presentations at CDA sponsored events including: component dental societies, CDA Presents, specialty organizations.
  • Research, develop and submit articles to be used in various newsletters including internal and external societies and associations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education, Training AND Experience

Requires Bachelor’s degree in related field with five to seven years of experience in dental practice management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous dental consulting experience strongly preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of dental business and practice management.
  • Understanding of small business marketing applications and strategies.
  • Must demonstrate sound analytical skills and experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and clients as necessary to accomplish job responsibilities.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must possess a customer-service orientation.
  • Must demonstrate diplomacy and tact while interacting with all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Must be able to make effective and persuasive presentations and speeches on various practice management topics.
  • Ability to produce quality written materials quickly and concisely, often with relatively minimal background material or research time.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret dental practice data.
  • Must be able to assess organizational risk and navigate delicate situations in order to minimize exposure.
  • Requires computer skills, including the ability to operate Windows/Microsoft Office Suite including Power Point. 
  • Must be able to travel up to 40%.
